]]>Yes! We are talking about none other than, the most celebrated Ring Road Rawalpindi. It is the most in-need and discussed public sector developmental road project.
The Ring Road Rawalpindi was incepted back in the year 2022, when the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Cricket Legend, Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on Saturday, March 19th, 2022.
This project did not put a single step forward, as a month later in April 2022; he was overthrown by the government.
Now the current government has started working on it again. Allegedly in a consultation meeting, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and BOTEK (Botek Bogazici MUSAvirlik Anonim Sirketi) signed a consultation agreement to provide a third-party recommendation for the selection of best suited route for the Ring Road Rawalpindi.
BOTEK Bosporus Technical Consulting Corporation is an independent Consulting Engineering Firm that provides multi-disciplinary engineering services.
This project has a total length of 65 km stretching –out from Channi Sher Alam bridge near Rawat to Thalian Interchange adjacent to the M-2 (Lahore-Islamabad) Motorway.
Allegedly, under the Land Acquisition Act, of 1894, the government authorities have acquired a piece of land in relevant locations to start construction of the project.
As per the recommendations of BOTEK BOSPORUS, Phase-I of Ring Road Rawalpindi should be outlined from Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat to Thalian Interchange covering a total distance of 38.3 km.
The Phase- II of the project should pass through a new road connecting Margalla Avenue to the M-1 Motorway passing through New Islamabad International Airport.
The other option presented was to connect the M-1 (Islamabad – Peshawar) motorway to the M-2 (Lahore- Islamabad) motorway directly.
The Ring Road Rawalpindi (RRR) would be 65 km in length with 110 meters in width comprising 6 lanes several service roads and Interchanges.
The greater Ring Road Rawalpindi involves five major locations in its planned route namely: Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat, Chak Beli Khan Road, Adyala Road, Chakri Road, and M-2 Motorway Thalian.
Owning to the strategic importance of this project, every section of this route would be benefited.
The Ring Road Rawalpindi will benefit the twin cities in different locations in different ways. Here are some potential benefits of the forthcoming public sector commuting project.
One of the basic goals of the Ring Road Rawalpindi (RRR) is to streamline the city traffic away from the urban hub towards adjacent localities. It would provide traffic relief to the surrounding commercial and residential installations.
The fringes of Islamabad-Rawalpindi would be connected and other adjacent cities easily. The increased accessibility would increase the economic activity in surrounding places.
The urban pollution level will surely fall with decreasing pollution sources of the city. This will ultimately result in a cleaner environment and a healthy lifestyle.
The increased transportation infrastructure provided by the Ring Road Rawalpindi (RRR). A ring road can fasten economic activity in the nearest regions. Businesses may be more tilted to these areas for better operational activity.
The streamlined transportation means will enhance the demand whereabouts. This would ultimately boost the construction activity of residential, commercial, and industrial infrastructure increasing business growth through urban enlargement.
A ring road can facilitate easier travel for tourists and travelers moving around the city and its outskirts. This convenience can promote tourism and result in increased spending in adjacent regions, benefiting local businesses and services.
The efficient movement of goods around the city and beyond is crucial for businesses. A ring road can provide a faster and more reliable route for logistics and distribution activities, benefiting industries in adjacent areas.
The presence of a ring road can influence urban planning decisions in the adjacent regions. Planners may focus on creating more organized and efficient layouts, taking advantage of the improved connectivity provided by the ring road.
It’s a matter of consideration that the Ring Road Rawalpindi while ring road projects can bring these potential benefits, its success is associated with accurate planning, design, and execution.
Consideration of environmental impacts, community engagement, and collaboration between different stakeholders is crucial to ensure the positive impacts outweigh any potential negative effects.
