Ring Road Rawalpindi work Set to Soar Once Again

The most awaited public sector commuting project in one of the twin Cities of Pakistan starting shortly.

Yes! We are talking about none other than, the most celebrated Ring Road Rawalpindi. It is the most in-need and discussed public sector developmental road project.

The Ring Road Rawalpindi was incepted back in the year 2022, when the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Cricket Legend, Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on Saturday, March 19th, 2022.

This project did not put a single step forward, as a month later in April 2022; he was overthrown by the government.

Resumption of Ring Road Rawalpindi

Now the current government has started working on it again. Allegedly in a consultation meeting, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and BOTEK (Botek Bogazici MUSAvirlik Anonim Sirketi) signed a consultation agreement to provide a third-party recommendation for the selection of best suited route for the Ring Road Rawalpindi.

BOTEK Bosporus Technical Consulting Corporation is an independent Consulting Engineering Firm that provides multi-disciplinary engineering services.

This project has a total length of 65 km stretching –out from Channi Sher Alam bridge near Rawat to Thalian Interchange adjacent to the M-2 (Lahore-Islamabad) Motorway.

Allegedly, under the Land Acquisition Act, of 1894, the government authorities have acquired a piece of land in relevant locations to start construction of the project.

Expected Route Planning

As per the recommendations of BOTEK BOSPORUS, Phase-I of Ring Road Rawalpindi should be outlined from Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat to Thalian Interchange covering a total distance of 38.3 km.

The Phase- II of the project should pass through a new road connecting Margalla Avenue to the M-1 Motorway passing through New Islamabad International Airport.

The other option presented was to connect the M-1 (Islamabad – Peshawar) motorway to the M-2 (Lahore- Islamabad) motorway directly.

The Ring Road Rawalpindi (RRR) would be 65 km in length with 110 meters in width comprising 6 lanes several service roads and Interchanges.

The Perspective Beneficiaries of Ring Road Rawalpindi

The greater Ring Road Rawalpindi involves five major locations in its planned route namely: Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat, Chak Beli Khan Road, Adyala Road, Chakri Road, and M-2 Motorway Thalian.
